Acts of men are better than acts of God.
Miracles aren't something that happen. They're something people make happen.

cyclesofhollowjoy: (I hate this part of the debrief...)
Damn.

Thanks for letting me catch my breath, Barge. I've been knee-deep in one disaster and now I've already got my Inmate assignment. At least this job keeps me on my toes.

[Private to Scotty]

If you find out what caused the attack, will you let me know? I still want to catch the guy before someone else does and we get a riot on our hands.

[Private to Loki]

Looks like I'm your Warden. Misato Katsuragi. We can meet, as soon as you're ready.

[Private]

I don't get it. Angels where I come from weren't Biblical or holy at all. I thought I finally understood them. It took me a whole year of fighting them, but I understood. So why change the game now?

I think God's laughing at me.

You got thrown in at the deep end harder than most, unfortunately. Time on the Barge tends to get divided between total disaster and complaining about the boredom between said disaster - you'd think people would learn.

Are you all right, Misato?
17th-Mar-2010 04:47 pm (UTC) - Whoo!
Considering I drowned in the deep end in back home, it's almost comforting not to have to adjust to boredom right away. Definitely worth getting a headache over though.

I'm fine. I feel like I should apologize for throwing my weight around, but I can't sit back while something like this is happening, just because I haven't gotten my feet wet here yet.

Drowned in the deep end. Yes, I know how that feels.

I wouldn't worry about it. There are plenty of Type A personalities here and there's no real hierarchy. How long you've been here shouldn't really dictate anything as long as you can still talk sense.

Well, that's a relief. The last thing I need is a chewing-out session with the proximate authority, because I'm a natural alpha female.
19th-Mar-2010 08:32 pm (UTC) - Private
Hey. Good to meet you, I guess. You mind if I call you Misato?
19th-Mar-2010 08:44 pm (UTC) - Private
Nope! And I guess I can call you Loki, right?
21st-Mar-2010 08:28 am (UTC) - Private
Sure, that's fine. I don't know what else you would call me.
21st-Mar-2010 08:58 am (UTC) - Private
Um. Right.

SO. Are you free right now? I'd like to meet with you and go over some things in your file.
21st-Mar-2010 09:03 am (UTC) - Private
Yeah, I'm free. Sounds like a plan.

Where should we meet?
21st-Mar-2010 05:42 pm (UTC) - Private
How about your cabin? We could meet in mine, but it's a little messy right now.
21st-Mar-2010 06:08 pm (UTC) - Private - Spam it out?
Okay.
21st-Mar-2010 06:15 pm (UTC) - [Spam] SURE!
[Misato took a moment to breathe when she arrived at Loki's door. This wasn't going to be an issue. Absolutely not. The fact that Loki was an angel- No Former angel. Former. That part was important. An angel stuck in human form, despite angels having rejected that form. Except that wasn't how things worked where he came from.

She growled under her breath and rolled her eyes towards the ceiling, before finally knocking. When Loki answered, he'd get a smiling, happy Misato, as if her frustration never existed.]

It's me! Misato!

[Loki went and opened the door, entirely unaware of his warden's thoughts.]

"Hey." [He wasn't even making an effort to hide what was left of his wings. She was his warden, she'd find out soon enough if she didn't know already.]
21st-Mar-2010 06:30 pm (UTC) - [Spam]
[Okay. No matter what he was, seeing someone with bloodied stubs on their back is kind of pathetic.

She pointed at the wing stubs.] ...Have you gotten that looked at?

[Because that was totally an awesome way to begin their relationship. YOU HAVE NO MORE WINGS. PLEASE ALLOW ME TO DRAW COPIOUS ATTENTION TO THE FACT.]
25th-Mar-2010 06:59 am (UTC) - [Spam]
[Of course. That had to be moment one. Hey look everybody, let's point at the sad excuse for the Angel of Death, now just a pathetic human with vestigial stubs on his back, painful reminders of what he once was and the power he once held.]

"No. Someone's coming from the infirmary tomorrow. They're fine for now." [The faintest hint of annoyance flickered in his eyes.]
25th-Mar-2010 06:26 pm (UTC) - [Spam]
[Misato held up her hands defensively.] Just checking. Anyway. [She coughed, because this wasn't off to the most awkward start ever.] Okay, so you used to be the Angel of Death, huh?

[....How many people have actually said that in all seriousness to their inmates?]
26th-Mar-2010 06:24 pm (UTC) - [Spam]
"Yeah." [Loki paused, then added,] "I was damn good at it too." [He was still defensive about Gabriel's words, although at the time he'd tried to take them in stride. Asshole taking credit for his hard work, trying to say his universe was wrong...]
27th-Mar-2010 11:18 pm (UTC) - [Spam]
[Yeah, I'm pretty sure they frown on that here, Misato thought, still flipping through the file.] So I'm sure by now you've figured out the terms we have here. I, as your Warden, will help you achieve redemption and you get a second chance. Okay?
28th-Mar-2010 12:24 am (UTC) - [Spam]
"Sure." [Loki shrugged noncommittally, what was left of his wings moving with his shoulder blades. It made sense, after all. All he wanted to do was go home. If achieving redemption here was the way God wanted him to do it, then fine. At least it wasn't hell. Or Wisconsin.]

"So what else is up with this place, anyway? I'm sure there are a lot of people far less well-adjusted than I am."
29th-Mar-2010 12:14 am (UTC) - [Spam]
[Misato shrugged.] I'm not sure. I'm just as new to this as you are. I guess they pick people on the basis of whether or not they can be redeemed, so if you wind up here, there's actually hope for you.
1st-Apr-2010 04:03 am (UTC) - [Spam]
"Yeah, sure. Why not?" [Loki shrugged again. His warden was a newbie...he filed that bit of information away. It was his business to know people, after all. Whether or not they were sinners factored heavily into it, but...]
